Margaret Mary Campbell

Margaret Mary Campbell, 89, of Rock City, IL, formerly of Hampshire, IL, passed away June 27, 2026, at Parkview Home in Freeport. Margaret was born August 27, 1936, in Burlington, the daughter of William and Evelyn (Reiser) Herrmann. She lived in the Burlington/Hampshire area for 57 years. She attended St. Charles Borromeo School and graduated from Hampshire High School in 1954. While attending high school, she participated in school musicals and was active in 4-H. On February 12, 1955, she married Ralph Campbell. They were blessed with five children. In addition to being a housewife and homemaker, she worked as a secretary for Burlington Central High School, Elgin High School and Diamond Tool and Abrasives. She also worked as a waitress at The Bohemia Restaurant and as an assistant activity director at Lena Nursing Home in Lena, IL. Margaret graciously volunteered her time at St. Charles Borromeo School and organized a craft group at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Durand, IL. Margaret’s life was based on her faith, family and home. She loved being a homemaker and hosting family gatherings. Her many interests included baking, canning and preserving, flower gardening, crafting, water aerobics and decorating her house for the holidays. She also had a passion for taking care of animals on the farm and watching the Green Bay Packers. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Ralph; her sister, Marilyn (Herrmann) Warrington; her children, David (Mary) Campbell of Lily Lake, IL; Mary (Greg) Herwaldt of Prescott Valley, AZ; John (Emily) Campbell of Monroe, WI; Jane (Kevin) Olson of Bloomington, IL; Marcia Campbell (Rick Lehtinen) of Wooster, OH; along with nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Evelyn Herrmann; her sister, Dorothy (William) Schmidt; and her brother, Gerald (Mary Ann) Herrmann. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 3, from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m. followed by an 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 297 E. Jefferson Ave. in Hampshire.
