Virgil V. "Virg" Vogel

Virgil V, “Virg” Vogel, 88, of Hampshire, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 22, 2024, at home. He was born June 20, 1935, in Elgin, the son of Isadore and Elsie (Schuman) Vogel. He married Gloria Hoffman on May 7, 1960. Virgil had a simple upbringing with his family for a short time. In his teens he went to live with the Allen family in Hampshire as a hired hand. Buster and Sally considered him part of their family. In his early 20’s he met the love of his life Gloria and married in 1960. Virg was in the fuel oil sales and delivery business for over forty years. After retiring from the oil business, he went to work for Buck Brothers delivering equipment until he finally retired for good at age 82. Virg served 23 years as a volunteer firefighter for the Hampshire Fire Protection District and was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burlington. Virg held many titles in his life, but his favorite role was being a husband, father and grandfather. He loved nothing more than spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Family mattered more than anything to him. This belief was something he passed on to his children, along with anyone else he met. Virg was a friend to everyone. Virg also enjoyed traveling. He especially enjoyed annual family vacations up north and out west. He was also able to enjoy vacationing overseas. He will be dearly missed. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gloria; his children, Jan Maas, Mark (Marissa) Vogel, and Denise (John) Jenkin-Forslund; his four grandchildren, Joshua (Tori), David, Aaron (Lexie), Peyton; four great grandchildren, Easton, Charlotte, Brooks, and Blake; and his sister, Lorraine Smart. He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, and one sister. In lieu flowers, memorials in Virg's name may directed to the St. John's Lutheran Church or the Hampshire Fire Protection Dist. Funeral Services will be held at 12 Noon on Wednesday, February 28th at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 13N535 French Rd. in Burlington. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Hampshire Center Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to services at the church from 9 am – 11:45 am.
