Alta Marie Emma Dittman

September 4, 1922 - March 31, 2022

Alta Marie Emma Dittman, 99, of Hampshire passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at home in Hampshire. She was born September 4, 1922, in rural Hampshire, the daughter of Herman H. and Mareta (Lenz) Wesemann. Alta Marie was a 1939 graduate of Hampshire High School. She married Harold Adelbert Dittman on April 29, 1944, and they farmed in the Hampshire area until retiring in 2007. Alta Marie loved farm life, working alongside her husband, and raising their family. She was a member of the Kane County Farm Bureau Women’s Auxiliary and promoted agricultural awareness through their Ag in the Classroom initiative. In the early years, Alta Marie worked at The Elgin Watch Company, and later in her life, she enjoyed her career as a nursing assistant at St. Joseph’s hospital in Elgin - her quiet, kind, and caring presence was a gift to all who knew her. Alta Marie was an active member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church at North Plato, serving on the Ladies Aid, LWML, and Altar Guild. She was a founding member of the Rutland Township Historical Society, serving as the organization’s secretary. Surviving are her children: Mary Ellen (Jim) Henk of Hampshire; Brian (Kathy) Dittman of TX; and Mark (Kristin) Dittman of Henderson, NV; and sister-in-law, Trudy Wesemann of Hampshire. She will be missed by her loving grandchildren, Jennifer (Justin) Eadler of Huntley, Lisa (Bernhardt) van Wageningen of Hampshire; James (Amanda) Henk of Carpentersville; LCDR Eric (Erin) Dittman U.S. Navy, of Norfolk, VA; Angela (HT1Tom K.) Hodge U.S. Navy, of Norfolk, VA; SSG Jeffrey M. (Margui) Dittman U.S. Army, of VA; SSG Andrew D. Dittman U.S. Army, Ft. Bragg, NC; Rachel Dittman of Elgin; and eleven great-grandchildren: Julia and Joshua Eadler; Matthew, Amalia, and Owen van Wageningen; Ethan and, Audrey Henk; Neil and Olivia Dittman; Abigail and Madison Dittman; and many nieces and nephews. Alta Marie is preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her parents; her brothers, Elmer, Herman, and Donald Wesemann; and her sister, Mareta Allen. Visitation will be held at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43W301 Plank Road, North Plato, on Monday, April 11, 2022, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM, and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Funeral Services will be held at St. Peter's on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at 11:00 AM. Pastor Thomas Eaves will officiate. Burial will follow at the Hampshire Center Cemetery, Harmony Road. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Plato, the Rutland Dundee Fire Department, and the Hampshire Fire Department.
