Garnet Mae Anthony

Garnet Mae Anthony, 98, of Marengo, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, April 8, 2022. She was born February 4, 1924, in Woodstock, to Henry and Rozella (Buhrow) Secor, and was the oldest of four children. Garnet was married to Herbert Anthony on July 3, 1948, at Zion Lutheran Church in Marengo. Together they had two children: Mark and Marcia. She worked at the Marengo Foundry for a total of 57 years, retiring when she was 80 years old. She was a long-time member of the Zion Lutheran Church. Garnet enjoyed many hobbies, including reading, gardening, and playing games (especially Dominoes). She loved to bake, always had a spare dessert on hand to share, and loved gathering with family and friends. The family wishes to thank the staff of Florence Nursing Home and Heartland Hospice Care for their excellent care. She is survived by her beloved son Mark (Mona), her granddaughters Brooke Bartz (Josh) and Brynn Wisz (Kevin), four great-grandchildren whom she adored Tessa and Nolan Bartz, and Wyatt and Emmett Wisz, son-in-law Louis Barrett and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Herbert, daughter Marcia, sisters Lucille Rasmussen and Mary Botterman, brother H. Charles Secor, infant grandson Shane, and infant great-grandson Henry. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at Zion Lutheran Church in Marengo, 412 Jackson Street, with her funeral service to immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held in Marengo City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Zion Lutheran Church.
