Margaret A. Karsten Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Margaret A. Karsten, 91, of Hampshire, passed peacefully on June 10, 2022, in her home surrounded by family. She was born on January 20, 1931, in Chicago IL, the daughter of John and Susan (Weiss) Stegman. On June 26, 1976, she married Jerry A. Karsten at Trinity United Methodist Church in Carpentersville, IL. Margie, as she was known by family and friends, worked as a Weight Watcher lecturer for 45 years. She was a member of the Meadowdale Ladies Club, which was involved in many charitable activities. When needed, she was always available to help with school and Girl Scout functions. Margie was a great cook and baker, which we all loved and appreciated. She was an avid Bunco player and loved to sing, just ask her grandchildren. Margie had a natural artistic talent for painting pictures. She could take a snapshot or see a picture in her mind and turn it into a beautiful painting. We are all blessed to have her paintings hanging in our homes. She is survived by her husband, Jerry, of 45 years; three daughters: Maureen McGreevy, Colleen (Tom) Zimmerman, and Kathleen (the late Rick) Koval.; seven grandchildren, Sean (Carrie) McGreevy, Eric (Christine) Zimmerman, Sara (Will) Torres, Jason Zimmerman, Chad Zimmerman, Heather Neuzil, and Hollie Koval; eleven great-grandchildren, Malik, Madison, Kaitlyn, Charlotte, Rebecca, Emily, Samantha, Wyatt, Sabrina, Brett, and Natalie; two sisters, Irene Schertzer, Lillian Kovoros; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, August, and Albert Stegman; sisters, Katherine Villano, Rose Roskopf, Mary Stensing, Ann Hansen, Amelia Kruse, Barbara Michels, Susan Gorman, and Virginia Fuhs; her first husband, Charles O’Neil; son-in-law, Rick Koval; and great-grandson, Jacob Zimmerman. Visitation will be on June 17, from 2:00 pm-7:00 pm, with prayers at 6:30, at Fredrick Funeral Home 284 Park St, Hampshire IL. In lieu of flowers, a Tribute Donation may be made in the name of Margaret Karsten to The Alzheimer’s Organization at act.alz.org/donate
