Ray Maynard, 89, and a life-long resident of Hampshire, passed away early Thursday morning, Dec. 9, 2021, at his home with his wife Marie by his side. Ray was born Sept. 24, 1932, in Elgin, IL, the son of Raymond and Helen (Larkin) Maynard. He graduated from Elgin High School in 1950 and attended Diesel Engineering School in Chicago. Ray served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1953 to 1955. He married Anna Marie Miller, a Registered Nurse, on July 17, 1956, in Crookston, MN and settled in Hampshire, raising 3 sons. Ray joined his father operating Ray Maynard Inc. - Farm Implements and Hardware which his father established in 1922. Ray was a dedicated member of Hampshire American Legion Post 680 for over 60 years where he was a Past Commander and a Past Chef de Gare of 40/8, an honor society for American Legion members. He was also a life member of Genoa Masonic Lodge 288, actively participating for over 60 years. Ray was elected to and served for 16 years on the Hampshire Village Board, was on the Hampshire Fire and Ambulance Board for 6 years and served on the Selective Service board for National Defense from 1968 - 1975. Ray was a lifelong member of the Zion United Methodist Church in Hampshire. Ray is survived by his wife, Marie; and their 3 sons, Joel Maynard and wife Christine of Colorado Springs, CO. and their sons Jaron & Kody, Kirk Maynard and wife Cynthia of Bellevue, NE, their children, Grant & Kelsey (Chris) Ferris; Rory Maynard and wife Jeannine of Herndon, VA. and their children Alex (Ellen), Kendra, and Perry; and his sister, Dorothy Dodd (the late RJ) Bidinger of Rice Lake, WI. Ray was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Della Mae (the late William) Leith; and a grandson, Ryan in 2013. Funeral Services will be at 12 Noon on Friday, December 17 at Zion United Methodist Church, 157 W. Jefferson Ave. in Hampshire. Inurnment in the Hampshire Center Cemetery will be private. Visitation will be held prior to services at the church from 9 to 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Hampshire American Legion Post 680 Box 810 Hampshire, IL 60140 or the Genoa Masonic Lodge #288 AF & AM 125 S. Stott St. Unit B, Genoa, IL 60135.
