Denise M. Hornbeck

Denise M. Hornbeck, 55, of Hampshire, passed away Saturday, February 15th, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born September 28th, 1969, in Elgin, the daughter of Thomas and Debra (Koveleski) Baumann. She married William Hornbeck on June 19th, 1993, in South Elgin. Denise loved America and was the proudest military wife, a true patriot. Denise was destined to be a mama bear. She loved her kids more than anything in the world. She would walk through fires for them. As a newlywed and new mother, she took guardianship of her challenging sister and treated her like one of her own kids. She would’ve done anything to help anyone. For instance, collecting donations for the veterans shelter, taking supplies to those in need in Elgin on hot summer days, running the concession’s for Hampshire athletics and dropping everything to help any one in need. Denise loved spending time outside gardening and loved the ocean. She enjoyed walking up and down the beach collecting shells whenever she had the chance to be by the ocean. Her favorite hobby was antiquing or going to garage sales. She found so much joy in maintaining her beloved booth, “Country Junktion” at Americas Antique Mall in Algonquin. Denise loved spending every moment she could with her grandkids. She loved being a grammie. She loved having girls time with “her tribe.” In her last years, Denise loved spending time with Bill going on lunch dates, and drinking coffee on the back porch. Denise’s biggest goal in life was to give her kids a better life than she had and she can rest easy knowing she surpassed that goal. She is survived by her husband, Bill Hornbeck; her children, Angela (James Counts) Hornbeck, Jared Hornbeck, Alex Hornbeck, and Aaron Hornbeck; her grandchildren, River, and James; her siblings, Nicole (Tony) Dlugi, and Robert Baumann. She is preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jimmy; and her brother, Michael Baumann. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 23rd, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm with a 4:00 pm Service at Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park street, in Hampshire Illinois. Private Burial will be held in St. Charle Borromeo Catholic Cemetery In lieu of flowers, memorials in Denise’s name may be directed to the family for future charity designation.
