Frederick A. Vaisvil

Frederick A. Vaisvil, 93, of Hampshire, passed away peacefully Friday, April 11th, 2025. He was born on October 21, 1931, in Chicago, the son of Frank and Bernice (Lauraitis) Vaisvil. He married Joann Zaturski on June 13, 1959, in Lombard. For over 50 years, Fred was very active in the Church at both St. Joseph the Worker and St. Charles Borromeo, volunteering as a lector, usher, eucharistic minister, Knights of Columbus, and took leadership roles with RCIA, and the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Fred, a Korean War veteran, served as a photographic analyst. He earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois, a Master's degree from the University of Chicago, and a Doctor of Education from Nova University in 1976. Fred's career included roles as a student counselor at Prospect High School, he was one of the first administrators hired at the founding of Harper College, and he concluded his career as the Director of Placement and Student Aid at Harper College. After retirement he obtained his Real Estate license, and he remained active in the Rotary Club. Fred was an avid bowler, golfer, beekeeper, wine maker, and loved to go fishing with his sons and grandkids. He was a very devoted son, husband, father, a beloved grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his three children: Christopher (Elizabeth), Sandra Vaisvil (Earl Rolf), and Mark (Georgie). He also leaves behind nine grandchildren: Alexander, Wayne, Mark, Jake, Brendan, Victoria, Andrew, Isabelle, Dylan, and Sophia; ten great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Ryan Johnson (married to Amanda Johnson). Frederick is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joann; son, Wayne; granddaughter, Elizabeth; daughter-in-law, Lisa Vaisvil. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, April 24th at 11am at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 297 E. Jefferson Ave. in Hampshire. Burial will follow in the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church on Thursday, prior to mass from 9 to 10:45 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Frederick’s name may be directed to the St. Charles Borromeo Church. The Fredrick Funeral Home in Hampshire is assisting the family.
