Roy A. Stohlquist

Roy A. Stohlquist, age 75, passed away Friday, May 8, 2026 at his home in Poplar Grove surrounded by his family. Roy was born March 22, 1951 in Harvard to Maynard and Hazel (Shales) Stohlquist. On November 16, 1976, he married the love of his life, Julie Stone at Trinity Lutheran Church in Harvard. As a lifelong dairy and crop farmer, Roy was an agricultural enthusiast. He and Julie worked together to raise their family with deep agricultural roots and strong family values. Roy cherished working everyday alongside his son, Ryan and brother, Daryl on the family’s farm. He was also always so happy to spend time with his family – including his children, his in-laws, and his grandchildren – with conversations that centered around passing on his decades of knowledge and experience with farming and livestock. His proudest moments came when he was able to see his passion for showing livestock carried down to both his children and grandchildren. He could always be found in the stands at the fairs, cheering them on. Outside of the livestock show stands, Roy was sure to be found in the grandstands watching the tractor pulls. He also found enjoyment watching westerns and playing cards with family. With his grandchildren, he cherished the time he spent playing farm and toy tractors and was present for every sporting event. Roy will be remembered for being a dedicated, strong family man that did not have a bad bone in his body. True to his farming roots, he was kind and genuine to everyone he met and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He will be remembered as the best storyteller and always ready with a good joke. He could always be heard rhyming or whistling, and you never saw him without a smile on his face. To know him, was to love him, and he will be missed by everyone that got the chance to meet him. Roy is survived by his wife of 49 years, Julie; children, Ryan (Vicky) Stohlquist, Jenny (Chuck) Haese and Melissa (Jim) Webb; nine grandchildren that affectionately referred to him as their Papa, Ethan, Isabel and Marshall Stohlquist, Jaxon, Carter and Analyn Haese and Jacob, Cole and Aubrey Webb; siblings, Karen (Gene) Loeffel, Daryl Stohlquist, Deborah Kearney, Ruth (Ray) Anthony and brother-in-law Jim Riley. He was also a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Connie Riley, brother-in-law Ray Kearney and in-laws Jim and Marilyn Stone. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 12 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 504 E. Diggins Street, Harvard from 4-7 p.m. It will continue Wednesday, May 13 from 10 a.m. until time of service at Trinity Lutheran Church, beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Marengo City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring his memory with a donation as the family will be establishing a memorial fund to honor his legacy.
